“DVC is committed to providing power 24*7” said Shri R. N. Singh, Chairman, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)
Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised an Interactive Session on Evolving Role of DVC: The Road Ahead, today at the Chamber.
Shri R. N. Singh, Chairman, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) addressed the Session as the Chief Guest.
The Session was also addressed by Shri Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance) and Shri Asim Nandy, Executive Director (Commercial) & Shri D. Puitandi, Chief Engineer (Commercial) from DVC attended the Session.
Shri Lalit Beriwala, Senior Vice President, MCCI conveyed the Welcome Address for the Session. In his address, Shri Beriwala lauded that DVC has set new records in the form of highest ever annual generation of 38,416 MU with the capacity utilisation of 91.12% which is an all-time highest in the history of DVC.
Shri Beriwala drew the attention to the fact that WBSEDCL offered tariff structure is much lower than the revised tariff rate of DVC and the earlier craze of industries to locate their plants and works nearer to DVC utilities stands reversed.
Shri R. N. Singh, Chairman, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in his address mentioned about the mission of achieving 15,000 MW power generation by 2030.
Shri Singh mentioned that DVC plays a major in power generation in the Eastern region. DVC contributes one of fourth units of total power generating capacity in eastern region. The total power demand in the eastern region registered at 24,000 MW, last year of which DVC contributed 6,000 MW.
While speaking on future road map of DVC, Shri Singh mentioned that by December 2024, DVC will able to start 30 MW Floating Solar Plants at Raw Water Reservoirs of TPSs and by 2024-25, DVC will also introduce 2,000 MW Floating Solar PV Plant. DVC will enhance its thermal power generation by 3,720 MW by 2030.
Shri Singh pointed out the problem regarding shortage in capacity of Renewal power sources. DVC has planned Pump Storage Project in different areas including Lugupahar & Panchet Hill.
Shri Singh also lauded that India has largest power grid in the world. India has covered the journey from a deficit power generating country to a power surplus country. He further said that distribution companies owe genco INR 1lakh Cr.
Shri Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance) announced that DVC has decided to set up 11 KV substation at Kumardubi on August 28 and also DVC will come up with 17 additional 11 KV substations in valley areas in the next 3 to 4 months.
While addressing on the power tariff issue, due to Russia-Ukraine war, the imported coal price has been at a high rate which indirectly increases power cost. DVC has maintained the lowest power tariff in India. Shri Sarkar also pointed out that the coal price has been controlled; this will indicate the low cost of power generation.
