Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Knowledge Series on  Start-Up : “Deciphering the Psychology of Entrepreneurship” today at the Chamber.

The Knowledge Session was addressed by Shri Joydeep Bose, Managing Director and Group CHRO, Olam International Limited [a Fortune 500 company], Dr. Subir Hazra Chaudhury, Senior Psychiatrist, RMO & Clinical Tutor, Institute of Psychiatry, Govt. of West Bengal and Shri Basab Dasgupta, IPS (Retd.), I G (Retd.), West Bengal Police.

While welcoming the guest, Shri Smarajit Mitra, Chairman, Council on Start Up & Skill Development, MCCI in his address suggested that An entrepreneurial mindset is unique as, one must be creative, communicative, and highly motivated to succeed, yet open to risk and failure. It is basically a set of skills that enables people to identify and make the most of opportunities, overcome and learn from setbacks, and succeed in a variety of settings.

Shri Mitra announced that MCCI will come up with MCCI Start Up Help Desk soon, for extending mentoring and hand holding services to the Start Up Community and also the prospective entrepreneurs.

Shri Joydeep Bose, Managing Director and Group CHRO, Olam International Limited [a Fortune 500 company] in his address firstly pointed out that entrepreneur is one who can take company zero to one. Entrepreneur is one who can sense and match the needs of the commercial business. To become successful in entrepreneurship, the young entrepreneur needs business ecosystem around them.

While speaking on success mantra of entrepreneur, Shri Bose advised the house that the entrepreneur should have vision, inspiration, strategic idea and execution of the strategy. To large extent, the values are important for the entrepreneur and the values must be considered with the business ecosystem.

For new venture to overcome the critical situation, they must have created their own support system for mental strength and resilience. 

Dr. Subir Hazra Chaudhury, Senior Psychiatrist, RMO & Clinical Tutor, Institute of Psychiatry, Govt. of West Bengal in his address talked about 4 essential quality that the entrepreneur should have, these qualities are more than average intelligence, emotional stability, risk taking ability and exceptional knowledge in the business concept.  

Dr. Hazra Chaudhury advised that there is a paradigm shift in business ecosystem. The entrepreneurship has been shifted to venture capital ecosystem.

Shri Basab Dasgupta, IPS (Retd.), I G (Retd.), West Bengal Police in his address mentioned that both Union and State Government have come with lots of facilitative business support to the new venture. The Sectors like FMCG, Automobile, E-commerce, etc have huge opportunities to pursue.  The new entrepreneur should focus unstructured activities apart from structural. Value in business is important for the entrepreneur in way of success.
