INAUGURATION OF GURU SHISHYA PARAMPARA KENDRA by Guru Srimati Miranda Choudhury – A leading popular folk singer of Assam

Guwahati, 30 September, 2022: For many years, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has been implementing various schemes to promote the traditional folk culture of India. ‘The Guru Shishya Parampara’ is one such scheme that aims to uplift India’s traditional culture through imparting training by appointing ‘Gurus’ who teach folk art to the new learners. Through its zonal cultural centers like the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, the North East Zone Cultural Centre, and so forth, the ministry is implementing this ambitious project. The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the concerned ministry, has recently selected and appointed some notable artists of the northeast zone as ‘Gurus’ for the financial year 2021-22.

Srimati Miranda Choudhury, a leading popular folk singer of Assam, has been appointed as one of the ‘Gurus’ to impart training in “Goalpariya folk songs” among the students. Following the guidelines of the scheme, Miranda opened her ‘Guru Shishya Parampara Kendra’ near Bye Lane 5, Rajgarh Road, Guwahati on September 30, 2022, at 6.00 pm. It may be noted that a ‘Guru Shishya Parampara Kendra’ consists of one guru, one assistant, and four shishya as of now.

At the inauguration ceremony, Srimati Kanika Krishna B. Baruah, a music lover, lit earthen lamps for the center and a devotional mantra was chanted.

Srimati Miranda Choudhury has explained the aims, objectives, and purposes of Guru Shishya Parampara Kendra and that of the Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme, a noble endeavor of the Ministry of Culture, the Government of India to promote and spread India’s traditional folk culture.

While delivering a speech in the meeting, Sri Narayan Kalita, a graded musician of All India Radio, Guwahati, and assistant, Guru Shishya Parampara Kendra, assured that he would extend all necessary support for the smooth running of the Kendra.

Listening to the noble purpose of the Guru Shishya Parampara scheme, a few people delivered brief speeches in the meeting and expressed their best wishes for the grand success of the programme.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Miranda Choudhury.
