G20 First Working Group Meet on Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion begins in Kolkata

The first ‘Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion’ meeting of the G20 began in Kolkata today in the auguste presence of guests and distinguished persons from around the Globe. The meeting began with a round of discussions aimed at better opening of doors of digital transactions to marginal people for financial progress and productivity growth.
The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the guests and delegates and said that she is happy to host this G-20 meeting in the state. Supporting the theme of this year’s G-20 conference, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutambakkam’, the Chief Minister said she does not believe in political borders. Development of the world is not possible without the development of people as a whole. Her government is working with a human face for the development of people. Special importance is being given to the development of women and also for the backward section of the society. She highlighted various steps taken by the government to increase e-governance and digital transactions. The Chief Minister also referred to the industrial potential of the state.
Two panel discussions were held as part of this discussion. 12 experts from International Financial Organisations participated in the discussion on the role of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in Financial Inclusion and Productivity Gains and also on Digital Financial Ecosystem based on Digital Public Infrastructure. The Ambassador for Digital Affairs, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France, Mr. Henri Verdier and the Ambassador -At -Large for Digital Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Estonia, Ms. Lene Liosk participated in the discussions. Besides, an exhibition on innovative financial products has been put up as a part of the meet.
