BSF JAWANS APPREHENDED A SMUGGLER, WHILE SMUGGLING SILVER ORNAMENTS ON THE BORDER

On 15th January, 2023, on the basis of reliable information, the jawans of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, apprehended a smuggler with silver ornaments. Actually, the jawans on duty saw a person coming towards the Border Out Post in an e-rickshaw. When the jawans stopped him and asked him, he could not give any satisfactory reply. After this, the jawans brought him to the Border Out Post for further questioning. When the troops searched the e-rickshaw thoroughly, 03 packets came out from its cavity. When the jawans opened the packets, 3.270 Kgs silver ornaments were found in them. The jawans immediately apprehended the smuggler along with the ornaments. The estimated value of the seized silver ornaments is Rs.1,85,709/-. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Sahin Ghazi, District North 24 Parganas.

During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he has been doing this type of smuggling for a long time. Today these goods were given to him by smuggler Rehman Ghazi at Bithari market. These ornaments were to be handed over to the same smuggler after crossing the Border. He was to get 1000 rupees for this work. But the BSF jawans had already apprehended him.

The apprehended smuggler and the seized goods were handed over to the Custom Office, Tentulia for further legal action.

The Commanding Officer of 112 Battalion stated that Border Security Force troops are taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the India-Bangladesh Border. Due to which people Indulged in activities like smuggling are facing a lot of difficulties and some of them are being apprehended and punished according to the law, he added.
