DERAILMENT OF TRAINS AT BAHANAGA BAZAR STATION OF KHARAGPUR DIVISION
Kolkata, 2nd June, 2023:
Train no. 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandal Express and Train no. 12864 Sir M Visveswaraya-Howrah Superfast Express got derailed near Bahanaga Bazar Railway station at around 18.55 Hrs on 02.06.2023. Accident Relief trains with medical equipment and doctors have also rushed to the site from Kharagpur and Bhadrak. A large number of Doctors, nurses & paramedical staff from B R Singh Hospital & Orthopedics Hospital / Howrah are rushing to the Accident site.
Injured passengers have been taken to the Hospitals of Gopalpur, Khantapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Soro.
Moreover, Busses have been arranged for the stranded passengers in both Balasore and Bhadrak directions. Special trains will also run between Bhadrak-Chennai and Balasore-Howrah for the stranded passengers.
Due to the tragic accident of train no. 12841, Coach number B2 to B9, A1 & A2 got capsized. Coach no. B1 & Engine got derailed. Coach H1 & GS coach in on the rail.
In Train no. 12864, 1 GS coach got damaged on the rail, Rear side GS & 02 bogies derailed and capsized, coach no A1 to engine on the rail.
As of now, more than 38 casualties and more than 300 injured passengers are reported, the injured are being admitted to nearby health units.
In view of the tragic rail accident at Bahanaga, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik ji has ordered for State Mourning for a day. Hence no State celebration is to take place on 3rd June throughout the State.
As of now enhanced Ex Gratia announced by the authorities is Rupees 10 Lakhs for the dead, Rupees 2 Lakhs for seriously injured, and Rupees 50 Thousand for a minor injury.
