ADVANCED REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM IN VANDE BHARAT EXPRESS – A NEW DIMENSION IN ENERGY SAVING

Safety features like Advanced Regenerative Braking System in Vande Bharat Trains are adding up the green footprints. Moreover, it can save up to 30% of electrical energy.
The efficiency of the Regenerative Braking System is better when compared to a loco haul train. Regenerative braking systems reclaim and store kinetic energy in a reusable manner. In regenerative braking, a motor starts working like a generator, when the brake is applied power is fed back into the supply system. So, another train in the same ‘feed’ zone that is accelerating can use that power. Because of this, there is a huge energy saving.
Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer/Eastern Railway said “In the good old days nearly 100 units of power is consumed for starting or accelerating. Usage of Advanced Regenerative Braking system has shown to reduce the carbon footprint of train haulage, with the potential to also increase capacity on crowded lines”
