METRO’S SPECIAL INITIATIVE TO PREVENT DENGUE AND MALARIA
Kolkata, Date: 04.07.2023
Metro Railway has been taking adequate measures for the prevention of Dengue and Malaria in Kolkata. As Monsoon has set in Kolkata, these vector-borne diseases are spreading by mosquitoes. In order to tackle this menace, Anti-Malaria, and Anti-Dengue spraying work is being done regularly on the Metro premises.
Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway has instructed concerned officials to take steps so that rainwater does not get accumulated in the Metro premises during the Monsoon. Accordingly, central drain cleaning along the Metro tracks is also being done regularly. Metro officials and staff have been constantly monitoring the situation and in the underground section, sump cleaning is taking place regularly to ensure zero accumulation of rainwater. The central drain is also kept clean inside the tunnel so that water flows out smoothly. On the viaduct/surface section, proper cleaning of drains is also being ensured in order to discharge rainwater in case of heavy downpours. Larvicide is being sprayed at the different station premises, drains, inside the tunnels, Metro Quarter Complexes, and Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital as a preventive measure.
At Metro car sheds in Noapara, Kavi Subhash, Central Park Depot, and Joka where maintenance works are carried out round the clock, in addition to the regular spraying, fogging is also being done. This exercise is also being followed at Metro Rail Bhavan, RPF Barracks, and other office buildings.
