NFR extends a helping hand to Manipur
Freight Train Carrying essential commodities reaches Manipur
Maligaon, 24thJuly, 2023:
In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state of Manipur, the movement of essential items to the state had been completely cut-off. With the co-operation of the state government, NFR has operated a freight train carrying essential commodities and other food items to Khongsang station in Manipur state. Thus, fulfilling its commitment to supply essential items to the state during the time of crisis. NFR has allowed piecemeal re-booking of wagons as a special case as requested by Govt. of Manipur.
The freight train carrying essential and other non–essential items consists of 11 wagons. 02 wagons of potatoes were loaded from Dhupguri, 03 wagons of sugar were loaded from Azaraand 06 wagons with FMCG items were loaded from New Guwahati for the people of Manipur. The items loaded were transported to Khongsang. This station came up in 2022 as a part of the Jiribam – Imphal new line project.
The goods train was received today at Khongsang station by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri N. Biren Singh; Hon’ble Minister (PWD & YAS), Shri Govindas Konthoujam; Hon’ble Minister (Water Resources and Relief & DM), Shri Awangbow Newmai; Hon’ble Minister (Transport and Vet. & AH), Shri Khasim Vashum and other senior officials of the state govt.
A Marketing Inspector (who can be contacted on 6000388439) has been specially deputed in Imphal for the convenience of the Manipur-based traders to hand holds them in booking the commodities through Railways. The Marketing Inspector will be available round the clock for any queries of the traders.
The initiative taken by NFR is expected to be of great help to the people of Manipur in the prevailing scenario. N. F. Railway is fully committed to extending all possible assistance to the state of Manipur during this time of crisis.
