
EASTERN RAILWAY HOLDS MEETING WITH FREIGHT CUSTOMERS TO CUT BETTER NICHE IN THE FREIGHT BUSINESS

In order to grab a major share in the freight business market, Eastern Railway organized a freight customer meeting at Eastern Railway Headquarters, Fairlie Place today (27.7.2023). Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager/Eastern Railway, Shri Prabhas Dansana, Principal Chief Operations Manager and Shri Soumitra Majumdar, Principal Chief Commercial Manager discussed the freight customers from different sectors like cement, fertilizers, fly ash, and jute industries on various issues through which the Rail transport share of different industrial output and merchandise can go up remarkably. It was an interactive session between the freight customers and high-level officials of Eastern Railway for increasing freight traffic of Railways by executing customers’ points of view and their needs. Rail Coefficient of cement plants which ranges from 45% to 75% (up to June 2023) committed to be increased by the cement merchants like Novoco & Ultratech cement authorities. Officials of cement manufacturing organizations requested to give priority for rake movement towards North Bengal areas like Siliguri, Alipurduar Fly Ash loading from Asansol & Malda Division will be enhanced to 15 rakes in a month from Maithan Power, Adani Power & Sagardighi Thermal Power. Fertilizer loading from Sealdah, Howrah & Asansol Divisions which is almost two rakes per day will be maximized. There is a broad discussion regarding the availability of rakes for loading fertilizers from Chitpur, Titagarh, Srirampur & Khidderpore Dock.
In the meeting, Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager, Eastern Railway pointed out that the Indian Railways system in general and Eastern Railway in particular is now geared up to meet the requirement of the industries and also asked the customers to expand the business by using Railways as a means of transport of industrial input & output so that it is a win-win situation for both the railways on one hand and freight customers on the other. General Manager also asked to come forward with new ideas to enhance the freight loading and assure them that Railway will take all measures for ease of doing business and increase in freight traffic.
Shri Prabhas Dansana, Principal Chief Operations Manager pointed out that all out efforts will be taken to fulfill the requirement of industry and adequate supply of wagons to the siding holders and any other issues will be taken care of. He assured Jute transporters that divisional level officers will meet Jute Commissioner to sort out the hindrances for loading of jute from the Sealdah & Howrah divisions.
Shri Soumitra Majumdar, Principal Chief Commercial Manager made a query regarding customers’ issues in handling of traffic at originating & destination points and assured the customers that necessary steps will be taken to provide all the facilities for better handling of traffic. Shri Majumdar, Principal Chief Commercial Manager also asked the customers to feel free to meet the Railway authorities for any sort of help or redressal and continue to provide logistic support for increasing the railway volume of freight.
In the end, customers expressed their satisfaction and agreed that they are getting all possible support from the divisional officers & headquarters team of Eastern Railway, and with such mutual understanding, they will continue to increase the freight business volume through the Railways.
