NON-INTERLOCKING WORK CONTINUING IN FULL SWING FOR THE COMMISSIONING OF 3RD LINE BETWEEN RAMPURHAT & CHATRA

Kolkata, August 20, 2023:

In order to increase mobility in the connecting Railway link from South Bengal to North Bengal/NorthEastern States as well as to the adjacent states of Bihar & Jharkhand via the Sahibganj loop, the non-interlocking work in connection with the commissioning of 3rd line between Rampurhat & Chatra started from 18.8.2023 as per earlier notified schedule.

As the pre-non-interlocking work started on 18.8.2023, on that day two crossing points at Swadinpur has been dismantled. In addition to this, traction modification work has been carried out there. Moreover, in the shadow of traffic block for this development work, various other works related to asset maintenance and capacity augmentation like tamping of line, laying & welding of joints, ultrasound testing, dressing & ballasting of the track are being executed at different areas in the Rampurhat – Chatra section to maximize the utilization of block period and reducing the number of days of traffic block for such work, taking into consideration about passengers convenience.

Approximately a total of 49 trains have been cancelled and 25 trains were diverted for this work so that the rest of the other trains can be run easily through the section during the block period.

The well-coordinated activity of various departments of Eastern Railway is continuing at the site to minimize the effect of such major development work. A total of 150 Assistant Station Masters & 259 other staff of the Operating Department as well as a similar volume of manpower from other departments have been deployed for this work under the supervision of the senior officers of Eastern Railway. DRM/Howrah is also continuously maintaining contact with the supervisors, staff & officers working in the field so that the work can be performed as per the proper schedule and on time.
