On Convocation of the 74th Term of the International Statistical Education Centre (ISEC) of the Indian Statistical Institute
The Convocation of the 74th Term of the International Statistical Education Centre (ISEC) of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) was held today (29th August 2023) at the Platinum Jubilee Auditorium in the Institute from 4.00 p.m. onwards to award Diplomas to the international trainees.
On this occasion, Dr. Bivas Chaudhuri, Director General, National Sample Survey (NSS), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India delivered the convocation address. Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director of the Institute presided over the ceremony and awarded the Diplomas to the recipients. Dr. Md. Zafar Anis, Assistant Secretary of ISEC, delivered his welcome address. Prof. Amita Pal, Member-Secretary of ISEC published the Annual Report on this occasion.
On this occasion, Fourteen trainees were awarded the 10-month Diploma Course on Statistical Theory and Application course. Out of fourteen trainees 10 from Myanmar, 2 from Mongolia and one each from Liberia and Tajikistan. Twelve of these participants are female. At present, the course is operated by the International Statistical Education Centre (ISEC) in collaboration with the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The Centre provides regular and special courses in theoretical and applied statistics at various levels to the selected participants from countries in the Middle-East, South and South-East Asia, the Far East and the Commonwealth Countries in Africa. Most of the candidates are officials from national statistical offices and other government departments or from financial and other business organizations of the above countries. To date, approximately 1700 trainees from more than 80 countries have attended the course and received this Diploma.
