OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK 2023 AT ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL, HOWRAH
Kolkata, September 4, 2023
The American Dietic Association (Currently known as The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) started observing National Nutrition Week in 1975. India has been observing the National Nutrition Week every year from September 1st to 7th since 1982. The theme of National Nutrition Week 2023 is “ Healthy Diet Going Affordable for all”. The aim is to educate people about the role of nutrition and a healthy diet, promote healthy eating, support sustainable food choices and prevent diet-related diseases.
“At least one in three children under 5 is affected by malnutrition in its most visible forms: undernutrition – both stunting and wasting – and overweight.” “Good nutrition is the key factor for child survival, growth, and development. Well-nourished children are better able to learn, play and participate in their communities. They are also more resilient in the face of illness and crisis. Since 2000, the world has reduced the proportion of children under 5 suffering from stunting by one-third.”
