Bengal’s Madonna Iman Chakraborty Rocks US Pujas
North American Bengali organizations triggered off their puja celebrations the Mahalaya weekend, with prominent artists from India, performing in many cities of USA. A big attraction was National Award winning singer Iman Chakraborty. The singer celebrates her 10 years of US concert tours this year. Her first show was in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by Somerset, New Jersey.
The curtain raiser was Iman’s electrifying performance of “Aigiri Nandini.” Requests flowed from the audience of her ever popular songs: “Tapa Tini”, “Rangabati”, “Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho” and others. A beautiful moment was created when the audience chimed in, the evergreen Tagore song – “Majhe Majhe Tobo Dekha”, with their favorite singer.
Most remarkable was her fan following of the American born Bengali kids ranging from 8-15 years, who knew the lyrics of her songs and sang along with her. “This journey has been a learning one, that of knowing a country and its people so closely. And it has helped me grow as an artist”, reflects Iman.
The auditorium was filled with music and high energy as Bengal’s Madonna sang, danced and got the audience up on their feet. “As I sat in the audience and saw the love and adulation being showered upon Iman, I reminisced our musical journey together, when I first introduced her to the North American audiences, a decade ago. To see Iman evolve as a performing artist up close and personal has been magical. We wish her the very best,” says Jonai Singh, of JSEvents. Iman Chakraborty said, ” It’s been ten years I have started performing in US during Pujo. I have learnt a lot through my journey in abroad. I have a true soul connect with my audience here too. I am thankful to Jonai di for having me in US for over ten long years.”
