STUDENT CONCESSION FOR CHILDREN IN METRO RAILWAY
- Kolkata,
- Date: 14.11.2023
Metro Railway has been serving the nation since its inception in 1984. Lakhs of commuters regularly avail of Metro services and reach their destinations smoothly without any difficulty. Among these commuters, kids and schoolchildren form a major chunk. For the benefit of the students, Metro Railway has been giving concessions to the students of recognized schools (of West Bengal Board, CBSE, ICSE) and ITI students. Metro has been giving concessions to students up to 10+2 or equivalent level, since 2009 as per the stipulated rule (Railway Board’s Commercial Circular No.29 of dated 24.07.2009) in which students get 60% concessions.
As a result, students of 122 recognized schools (West Bengal Board, CBSE, and ICSE) and ITIs in and around Kolkata have been getting these concessions regularly. Any school/institution willing to avail of this concession is required to apply first to Metro Railway Authorities for enrolment. Once they are enrolled after fulfilling the criteria as per the rule, they are given concession books to distribute the concession forms to their registered students. Students need to show these forms duly signed and verified by the school authorities to the Station Master and after that Smart Cards are issued and recharged.
Since April 2023, 122 recognized schools and ITIs have been availing of this facility. They have been given concession books (each having 100 concession forms) to enable their students to avail concessions in Metro following stipulated procedure. From April to October 2023, 3399 Student Smart Cards have been recharged and 1095 new Student Smart Cards have been issued.
Students Smart Cards in Metro Railway are of two categories, one for 40 rides and another for 80 rides. The concessions given in these cards are given below:-
