EASTERN RAILWAY CELEBRATED 61ST ANNUAL CIVIL DEFENCE WEEK- 2023

Kolkata, December 6, 2023:

      Eastern Railway’s Civil Defence volunteers demonstrated unique disaster management skills like rescue operation from high rise buildings, firefighting, first-aid treatment of the victims during any exigencies including war etc. through simulation on the occasion of celebration of 61st Civil Defence Annual Day as a part of observance of All India Civil Defence Week, at Liluah Workshop Sports Ground on 6.12.2023. Civil Defence volunteers’ units of Eastern Railway’s Headquarters, Sealdah and Howrah Divisions, Kanchrapara and Liluah Workshops took part with huge enthusiasm in this demonstration of mock drill on disaster management and rescue operations. Shri Sumit Sarkar, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway and Additional Chief Patron of ER’s Civil Defence graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

 At present there are near about 500 employees of ER rendering yeoman services as Civil Defence volunteers who have been called upon not only during external aggression but also at the time of natural calamities like flood, earthquake etc. to render their valuable services and even in such difficult situations they have been of immense assistance to the civil authorities. The great effort of Civil Defence volunteers in crowd management & providing assistance to the people in various special occasions like Durga Puja, Ganga Sagar Mela etc. besides disaster management are praiseworthy. 

After a badge presentation & official welcome, Shri Sumit Sarkar, Additional General Manager and Additional Chief Patron, Civil Defence of Eastern Railway hoisted the Civil Defence flag. The inspection, which was a part of the parade, was graced by Shri Sumit Sarkar, Additional General Manager and Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager and Chief Civil Defence Officer of Howrah Division. Moreover, march past & tableau presentation and demonstration were followed by the cultural programme. The event was further glorified on announcement of the Best Contingent (Gents) – Liluah, Best Contingent (Ladies) – Howrah, Best Contingent Leader (Gents) – Headquarters, Best Contingent Leader (Ladies) – Sealdah & Best Board Bearer – Kanchrapara. 

Additional General Manager/Eastern Railway, Shri Sumit Sarkar also handed over awards to the Civil Defence Units of different divisions and workshops for their brilliant performance. Shri Ved Prakash, DGM (G)/Eastern Railway, Shri Yatish Kumar, CWM/Liluah, Shri Binay Barnwal, ADRM/Admin/Howrah, Shri Saurish Mukherjee, ADRM/OP/Howrah and other Divisional officers were also present on the occasion.
