Governor stressed the role of Atmanirbhar Bharat at the 76th CHEMCON 2023 hosted by Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata hosted the 76th Annual Session of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) ‘CHEMCON 2023’ organized by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers in association with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University and Heritage Institute of Technology from 27th December till 30th December.

The inaugural session of the Conference on 27th December was addressed by His Excellency Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose as the Chief Guest. During the inaugural session of the Conference, the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C.V.Ananda Bose stressed the role of Atmanirbhar Bharat. “Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is stressing that in every field India will be going to be Atmanirbhar Bharat. Atmanirbharta should be there in Science and Technology. We should look forward to the suggestions which will be coming from this great Conference held here,’ said Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, His Excellency Dr. C.V.Ananda Bose.

The Conference witnessed the participation of more than 1400 scientists, faculty members of various academic institutions, research scholars, corporates, and students from various engineering colleges across the Country.

24 eminent speakers from the Industry and academia will address the conference on the theme, Energy Transition: Challenges & Opportunities. 26 invited speakers will also be addressed in various sessions at CHEMCON 2023.

The inaugural ceremony of the Conference was attended by Prof. Anil Kumar Saroha, President (2023), IIChE & Professor, IIT Delhi, Mr. Dineshchandra M Butala, President (2022), IIChE, Prof. C. Karthikeyan, Vice-President, IIChE & Professor, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu, Prof. K. S. Rajanandam, Vice-President, IIChE, Prof. A. S. K. Sinha, Permanent Invitee Member, IIChE, Chairman, NOC, CHEMCON 2023 & Director, RGIPT, Jais, Amethi, Prof. M. K. Jha, Member, IIChE & Professor HAG, NIT Jalandhar, Shri H.K.Chaudhary, Chairman, Heritage Group of Institutions and many more.

Dr. N.Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR, and Secretary, DSIR, Govt. of India, Prof. G.D.Yadav, Emeritus Professor of Eminence and Former Vice-chancellor, ICT, Mumbai, Ms. Sukla Mistry, Director – Refinery, IOCL, Mr. Debasish Nanda, Director- Business Development, Coal India, Mr. Parthasarathi Chatterjee, Executive Vice President- Head, Offshore Oil & Gas, L&T Ltd, Mr. Arup Jhampri, Chief Operating Officer, ONGC, Mr. Subhankar Chakraborty, Vice President- R&D, Exide Industries Ltd and many more are among the eminent speakers who will address in various sessions at the Conference.

“This Conference will give solutions to various Energy problems India is facing now,” said Shri H.K. Chaudhary, Chairman, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata.

“This is an excellent platform for the Chemical Engineers to upgrade their knowledge and network with eminent personalities in this field,” said Mr. Vikram Swarup, Vice-Chairman, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata, and Chairman, Local organizing Committee, CHEMCON 2023 who was also present during the inaugural session of CHEMCON.

“These three days will witness a huge gathering of scientists in Kolkata who will discuss the future of energy and how chemical engineering is shaping up the future,” said Prof. Anil Kumar Saroha, President (2023), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.

“We are thankful to the almighty to get the opportunity to host such a Conference where a galaxy of scientists will visit our Institute. It is a matter of pride not only for our Institute but also for West Bengal which is an abode of eminent scientists who are shaping up the future of the world,” said Mr. P.K.Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata, and Vice Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, CHEMCON 2023.

“At Heritage, our students will get ample opportunities to interact with the scientists and it is a great learning,” said Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata.

“Our Institute will give utmost support to all the visitors during CHEMCON 2023. Such a Conference is happening after a long time in Kolkata. We hosted CHEMCON 2007 as well,” said Mr. P.R.Agarwala, Chairman, of Heritage Institute of Technology and Vice Chairman, of Local Organizing Committee, CHEMCON 2023 who was also present during the inaugural ceremony. Dr. Avijit Ghosh, Organizing Secretary, of CHEMCON 2023 and an alumnus of Heritage Institute of Technology said that CHEMCON will be a great support for the students in terms of recognizing their talents in research and development in chemical engineering across the Country. 

During these three days, there will be various award ceremonies that will be presented to the students and eminent personalities who have contributed immensely to the field of Chemical Engineering.

On 27th December, Prof. Shishir Sinha, Director General, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology, Ministry of Chemical Fertilizers, Government of India received the Heritage Institute of Technology Award for Innovative Research and Sustainable Process Development.
