MCCI in association with Woxsen University, Hyderabad organised a National Round Table on “Glocalization in Education for the Future Businesses” on Wednesday, 10 January 2024 at The Bengal Club, Kolkata. Mr. Yves Leterme, Former Prime Minister, Belgium was the Chief Guest of the Session.
The Session was addressed by Mr. Chahat Mishra, and Dr. Suman K. Mukerjee.
Mr. Namit Bajoria, President, MCCI in his welcome address highlighted that in today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, the concept of glocalization has become increasingly relevant for shaping the education systems that would prepare future business leaders. He viewed that the adoption of global standards and benchmarks in the local context, while also incorporating local perspectives into global frameworks is becoming increasingly important.
Mr. Yves Leterme, Former Prime Minister, Belgium informed that the EU is focusing on a Free Trade Agreement with India in the coming days. He emphasized that while inclusiveness in education is crucial, it is important to also address the challenges of illiteracy.
He mentioned the negativity bias and geopolitical challenges that the world economy is facing. He spoke about the need for having flexibility and the capacity to meet unexpected challenges, the horizontality of business education, the integration of global aspects in education, and building a stimulative capacity to be creative.
He said that glocalization is an approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of global and local contexts and seeks to create a more inclusive and culturally sustainable society.
While referring to the SDG goal of quality education, Mr. Chahat Mishra emphasized the need to establish diplomatic relations with educational institutes. He opined that there is a need to change the lens of looking at education where institutions are mere platforms for student placement.
While speaking on glocalization, Dr. Suman K. Mukerjee viewed that externalities play a very crucial role in today’s world, be it education or trade.
Mr. Smarajit Mitra, Chairman, of the Council on Human Resources & Skill Development, MCCI proposed the Vote of Thanks. He said that education must meet global and local challenges which has started happening in India. He suggested that the EU could take advantage of India’s core competence in analytics.
