ANOTHER UNIQUE INITIATIVE TO INCREASE NON-FARE REVENUE: IS ADVERTISEMENT ON PAPER-BASED QR CODE TICKETS
Kolkata, Date: 24.01.2024
Paper-based QR Code Ticketing System was introduced first in Green Line on 11.10.2023 at Sealdah Metro station. Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed this system which has already become popular among the Metro commuters. This facility was later extended to all the commissioned stations of the East-West Metro Corridor.
Commuters have welcomed this new move of the Metro Authorities. Passengers’ response to accepting this new Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System has been very good. Till now 5,86,422 passengers used Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System in this Corridor.
Metro authorities are now contemplating using the backside of this QR Code Based Ticket for commercial purposes. Apart from this, spaces of soon-to-be-opened stations of Orange Line and Purple Line will also be offered for commercial utilisation. Many Organisations are keen to display their advertisements in these spaces in order to draw the attention of Metro commuters. Metro authorities are flooded with phone calls and quarries of big corporates even before the tendering of this proposal. Such overwhelming responses from corporates only ensure the commercial viability of Metro premises and its utilities. It is certain that in coming days more and more big houses will be eager to display their commercials on Metro premises to reach the untouched section of the society.
