EASTERN RAILWAY SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED AN EVICTION DRIVE FOR PASSENGERS’ CONVENIENCE AT NETRA STATION

Eastern Railway is relentlessly striving hard to enhance the safety & security of passengers as well as to maintain smooth train operations. As a part of such endeavour, Sealdah Division has conducted an eviction drive to clear unauthorized encroachments at platforms, station premises, and along the Railway tracks.
A recent fire incident traced to illegal encroachments near Netra Station, a joint initiative by the Sealdah division’s Commercial Department, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Engineering Department has successfully cleared the area, prioritizing passenger safety and ensuring unobstructed railway operations.
Days after the alarming fire, an investigation pinpointed the origin of unauthorized structures and makeshift dwellings that had sprung up around the station. Recognizing the urgent need to address this safety hazard, the Commercial Department, RPF, and Engineering Department swiftly joined forces to launch a comprehensive eviction drive on 24.01.2024. Working in close coordination, the team systematically cleared the encroached areas, removing temporary structures, stalls, and makeshift dwellings that posed a safety threat. The operation was conducted with utmost sensitivity and care, minimizing disruption to passengers and ensuring a smooth clearance process.
This successful eviction drive is a testament to the remarkable synergy between departments. The Commercial Department’s proactive identification, the RPF’s diligent security assistance, and the Engineering Department’s swift execution were instrumental in achieving this positive outcome. The drive was done under the leadership of Sri Santanu Chakraborty Sr.DCM/Sealdah, and Sri Manoj Kumar Sr.DSC/Sealdah, under the guidance of DRM Sealdah Sri Deepak Nigam.
Sealdah Division can’t tolerate any activity that jeopardizes their well-being or disrupts railway operations. This eviction drive sends a strong message that such encroachments will not be tolerated.
The successful clearance of encroachments at Netra Station serves as a crucial step in mitigating safety risks and preventing similar incidents in the future. It exemplifies the Sealdah division’s proactive approach to ensuring a safe and secure travel experience for all passengers.
DRM Sealdah, Sri Deepak Nigam also repeated his appeal to the public to cooperate for maintaining a clean and safe railway environment. Citizens are urged to refrain from occupying railway land or constructing unauthorized structures near railway premises.
