STELLER PERFORMANCE OF SEALDAH DIVISION IN FY 2023-24

Sealdah Division experienced a successful year for its Commercial Department in FY 2023-24. With a focus on passenger comfort and empowering local businesses, the Commercial Department has implemented several innovative initiatives that are changing the travel experience. The department implemented several key initiatives that enhanced the passenger experience and generated significant revenue.

Passenger Growth takes place on the fast track, the division witnessed a commendable 5.1% increase in passenger volume compared to the previous year. This translates to serving an impressive 72 crore passengers in 2023-24, highlighting the growing trust and preference for Sealdah Division services. Earnings Reflect Growing Popularity. Passenger earnings also saw a positive trajectory, registering a healthy 6% growth. This financial boost reinforces the division’s commitment to providing high-quality services that meet the evolving needs of passengers.

Throughout the year, the Sealdah Division implemented various initiatives such as:

Passenger-Centric Focus:

• Foreign Currency Exchange: Two counters were established at Kolkata station, catering to the needs of international passengers arriving on trains like Maitree Express and Bandhan Express.
• New Train Introduced: Responding to passenger demand, a daily train service (Sealdah-Balurghat-Sealdah, 13189/13190) was introduced for convenient travel.
• Upgraded Lady’s Compartment: Passengers traveling in First Class Lady’s compartments benefitted from improved security and comfort with CCTV installation, cushioned seating, a talk-back system, mobile charging points, and thematic painting.
• Digital Transformation: Sealdah Division embraced digital payments by introducing QR code-based options at select stations. Additionally, Mobile UTS was launched at Kakdwip and Namkhana stations, with plans to expand this service to all halt stations for increased convenience.
• Passenger Awareness Campaigns: The department prioritized passenger safety and well-being through campaigns promoting safe travel practices, responsible use of pay-and-use toilets, and utilizing the R-wallet feature for ticket purchases through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).
• Foreign Money Exchange Counters.
• Branded Stores: P.C.CHANDRA, BATA, ANJALI JWELLERS, FAMILY MALL.

Enhanced Station Facilities:

• Platform Extension: To accommodate longer trains, platform extension work is underway at platforms 2, 3, and 4 at Sealdah Station.
• Branded Stores and Local Products: Passengers can now enjoy shopping for unique Bengali products at the Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation Limited store located at Sealdah Station. The “One Station One Product” (OSOP) initiative further enriches the travel experience by offering regional specialties at 48 stalls across 46 stations.

Sealdah Division’s Commercial Department is committed to continuous improvement, focusing on passenger satisfaction and generating revenue to support railway infrastructure development under the leadership of Sri Santanu Chakraborty Sr.DCM and under the guidance of Sri Deepak Nigam DRM/Sealdah. Sealdah Division remains on track for continued progress. Their focus in the coming year will be on expanding digital payment options, mobile ticketing services, and passenger awareness campaigns. With a clear commitment to both passengers and local businesses, Sealdah Division is ready to write a new chapter in railway excellence.
