District- North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, 14 April 2024, Vigilant personnel of various battalions of BSF, South Bengal Frontier foiled smuggling attempts at the International Border in District North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad of West Bengal and seized 83 fish pin balls, 499 Phensedyl bottles when smugglers were trying to smuggle these banned items from India to Bangladesh. The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Rs 12 lakh.

According to the information, on 13.04.2024, specific information was provided regarding the smuggling of pinfish through the area between Jagannath Ghat Ghat and Mangal Chandi Ghat Ghat area of Border Outpost Bagna, 118 Battalion, BSF. The boat post of forest post-Bagna was alerted. At about 2230 hrs the troops at the boat naka noticed some suspicious activities towards the Mangal Chandi Ghat ghat area, when the sentry focused the torch on the boat of the miscreants, both the miscreants jumped into the river and ran away towards the Indian territory. The boat naka party reached the abandoned boat and seized a country boat (small size) with 01 engine which contained 36 fish pinballs in 09 sacks. The seized items were brought to BOP Samsher Nagar for legal action.

Apart from this, jawans of Border Outpost CS Khali and Pargumati, 118 Battalion, BSF, and Border Outpost Dobarpada, 05 Battalion seized 47 fishpin balls from their respective areas of responsibility. In other incidents on the same day, personnel of Border Post Angrail, 05 Battalion, BSF, and Border Post Kakmari Char, 73 Battalion seized 499 Phensedyl bottles from their respective areas.

The seized items were handed over to the concerned department for further legal action.

Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, Shri A.K. DIG Arya said BSF is taking strict steps to stop smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes have to face many problems. The officer further said that we would not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
