ACHIEVEMENT OF 100% PUNCTUALITY IN MAIL/ EXPRESS SERVICES OVER SEALDAH DIVISION
Kolkata, July 7, 2024:

On 06/07/24, the Sealdah division of Eastern Railway triumphantly achieved an impeccable 100% punctuality in Mail Express services. This accomplishment is particularly remarkable given the challenges and extensive infrastructure upgrades undertaken during this period.

• Infrastructure Upgrades and Challenges:
Platform Extension and System Upgrade -The NI work to extend platforms 1-5 to accommodate 12 coaches at Sealdah station was successfully completed, and the Electronic Interlocking (EI) system, which replaced the Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) system, was commissioned on 09/06/24. Despite the challenges posed by post-NI effects and ongoing upgradation during the transition from RRI to EI, our team admirably maintained flawless punctuality.

• Increase in Summer Special Trains:
Moreover, train operations faced added complexity this year due to a notable increase in summer special trains compared to the previous year. To illustrate, from 1st April ’23 to 6th July ’23, the Division operated 133 special trains, whereas during the same period this year, this figure escalated to 340 special trains— an increase of nearly threefold. Despite this substantial expansion in operations, we have consistently maintained our punctuality standards.

• Intensive Monitoring and Surveillance:
Our success owes much to the vigilant oversight from the war room at the Control office, where we promptly tackle any challenges or setbacks that could affect punctuality. This war room, manned by dedicated officers, serve as our frontline defence, ensuring seamless operations and upholding our punctuality standards by monitoring train schedules closely.

Comparative Achievement and Future Outlook:
Reflecting on last year, when Sealdah Division achieved 100% Mail /Express punctuality for 16 days, the Division now poised to surpass this record. With unwavering dedication and a steadfast commitment to operational excellence, we are set to achieve new heights and set a benchmark in the realm of punctuality. This remarkable accomplishment is a shining example of what Railways can achieve through teamwork, innovation and unwavering focus on goals.
