METRO TO INTRODUCE NO BOOKING COUNTER STATION AT TARATALA, SAKHERBAZAR AND KAVI SUKANTA

Kolkata, Date: 31.07.2024

Metro Railway, Kolkata is going to introduce “No Booking Counter Station” in Purple and Orange Lines from 01.08.2024 (Thursday) as a pilot project. Three stations have been selected for this pilot project. These stations are Taratala, Sakherbazar Metro stations of the Purple Line, and Kavi Sukanta station of the Orange Line. The average daily passenger count at Taratala station is only 70 while 220 passengers use Kavi Sukanta Metro station regularly. At Sakherbazar station it has been observed that around 55 passengers have been using this station.

As the passenger count is very low, Metro Railway Authorities have decided to make these three stations as “No Booking Counter Station” from 01.08.2024. In these stations no booking counter will remain open for issuing tokens, new Smart Cards, or recharging Smart Cards from tomorrow and no booking staff will be present. Instead, passengers will purchase their tokens, Smart Cards, and Paper QR Code Based Tickets from Automatic Smart Card Recharge Machines (ASCRM). They can also recharge their Smart Cards from these machines. For this reason, ASCRM machines have already been installed at these stations. In each of these three stations, two ASCRM machines have been installed for the benefit of our commuters. It is to be noted that these user-friendly ASCRM machines are going to enhance the travelling experience in Kolkata Metro. Passengers can also opt for UPI payment-based ticketing systems in these ASCRMs.

It is hoped that this system will be welcomed by the Metro users and in due course of time it will become popular too. Metro Railway Authorities will monitor passenger responses and also analyse feedback in the coming days. After 6 months, the situation will be reviewed and further course of action, if necessary, will be taken.

Kolkata Metro solicits help and co-operation from all the stakeholders to make this new initiative a success.
