IMPRESSIVE GROWTH IN FREIGHT LOADING & FREIGHT EARNING OF EASTERN RAILWAY

Eastern Railway, traditionally recognized as a passenger-carrying railway, is making remarkable strides in the freight transport sector. The railway zone has reported a substantial increase in freight loading and earnings for the current financial year, showcasing its commitment to expanding its market share and exploring new freight transport opportunities.
In this financial year (2024-25) up to July 2024, the cumulative freight loading of Eastern Railway was recorded as 33.134 million tonnes compared to 26.633 million tonnes recorded corresponding in the previous year (FY 2023-24), thus recording a 24.37% increase in the current fiscal.
Among these, coal transport alone was recorded as 22.448 million tonnes from April to July 2024 compared to 16.819 million tonnes carried from April to July 2023, registering an increase of 33.46%.
The cumulative total earning of Eastern Railway from freight transport up to July in this fiscal (FY 2024-25) was recorded as ₹3029.567 crore compared to ₹2366.825 crore earned during the corresponding period in FY 2023-24, registering an increase of 28% in the current financial year.
