TECHNICAL SEMINAR ORGANISED AT DR.B.C.ROY AUDITORIUM AS PART OF CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF METRO RAILWAY, KOLKATA

Metro Railway Kolkata has been celebrating 40 years of excellence in Urban Transportation in Kolkata. Today i.e. on 23rd October 2024, a Technical Seminar was organised at Dr. B.C. Roy Auditorium, Sealdah in the esteemed presence of Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata, along with other senior officials and dignitaries.
The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Shri Reddy and the dignitaries, followed by a warm welcome note from Shri. Subrata Sarkar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Metro Railway. In his remarks, Shri Sarkar highlighted the evolution and impact of Metro Railway on Kolkata’s urban landscape over the past four decades.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of a special souvenir, commemorating this significant milestone. This was followed by a historical reflection on the journey of Metro Railway, with a detailed presentation by Shri Manish Jain, Principal Chief Safety Officer, Metro Railway Kolkata, showcasing the progress made from its inception to present-day operations.
A series of experience-sharing sessions by esteemed individuals, including Shri Rajesh Prasad, Former Director (Operations) of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Dr. Mangu Singh, Principal Chief Advisor and Former MD, DMRC, Former Dy. CE, Metro Railway, Kolkata added a unique perspective on how Metro services have transformed Kolkata’s transportation system over the years.
The event also featured insights into upcoming projects with Shri Vipin Kumar, Chief Project Manager, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), discussed the development of the Joka-Esplanade (Purple Line) Metro Project. Following this, Prof. Swapnil Garg from IIM Indore delivered an insightful presentation on Unbundling the Bundling of Transport Infrastructure Assets, providing a fresh perspective on optimizing transport infrastructure.
Additionally, there was a virtual presentation by Daniel Navascués, Head of Siemens Mobility Telecommunications and SCADA portfolio, and Charline Graf, System Manager for Telecommunications and SCADA from Siemens Limited. They shared their expertise on Intelligent Station and Power Management, highlighting advanced technologies in station and energy management systems. Another important highlight was presented by Shri. Sailesh Kumar, GM (Civil), Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), on the tunnelling below the Hooghly River, a remarkable engineering achievement that further underscores Metro Railway’s commitment to innovation.
The event took a forward-looking approach with discussions on Intelligent Stations and Power Management, and a presentation from the IIT Chennai Hyperloop Team lead by Aditya Khakse & Hari Krishna T on Hyperloop Technologies, showcasing the future of urban transport.
Concluding the day’s event, Shri Reddy highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer and the need for preparedness in addressing future challenges. He also extended his gratitude to the organizing team, acknowledging their efforts in making the event both insightful and successful.
In another event in the evening, a Cultural Programme was organised by the staff of Metro Railway where Metro employees and their wards participated in it.
