“Whisper of a Wetland: A Vision for Tomorrow” Wins ABU Award 2024
Akashvani is delighted to announce that “Whisper of a Wetland: A Vision for Tomorrow”, produced by Suvayan Bala, Programme Executive has won in the prestigious ABU Prizes 2024 in the Radio/Audio ABU Perspective Award category. The documentary, focusing on the ecological importance of the East Kolkata Wetlands and their role in sustainable urban development, was chosen from over 342 entries across the world.
This year’s perspective theme was “Future”,
celebrating programmes that inspire dialogue about the shape of things to come; from innovation, to science, technology, or individual endeavor and envision the possibilities that tomorrow holds.
“Whisper of a Wetland: A Vision for Tomorrow” stood out for its compelling portrayal of the wetlands’ role as Kolkata’s “kidney” and its message about environmental conservation. The documentary highlights the wetlands’ natural water treatment system and rich biodiversity, including their vital contribution to the local economy and cultural heritage.
The ABU Prizes are awarded annually by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), which was founded in 1964 and is the largest broadcasting union in the world, with over 240 members across the globe.
This competition is one of the most prestigious in the broadcasting industry, promoting creativity, innovation and impactful storytelling.
The awards ceremony took place on October 22, 2024, during the gala event at the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus Hotel, Istanbul, Türkiye as part of the 61st ABU General Assembly.
This achievement again showcases Akashvani’s commitment to high-quality, socially relevant programming and its role as public service broadcaster.
