62ND WALONG DAY CELEBRATIONS : INDIAN ARMY SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED 251 KM CYCLING EXPEDITION

In a spirited celebration of the 62nd Walong Day, the Indian Army’s cycling expedition team successfully completed a three-day adventure trip covering 251 kilometers through the breathtaking Lohit Valley. The expedition was flagged in today at the Namti War Memorial.

Organized in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), the cycling expedition traversed three border districts of Namsai, Lohit, and Anjaw. The journey began on 21 October 2024, when the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Chowna Mein, flagged off the event at the Golden Pagoda, accompanied by senior officials from the Indian Army, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and NEEPCO, as well as 750 enthusiastic locals from Namsai and Lohit. The expedition included 62 cyclists from the Indian Army, adventurists from Pune and local enthusiasts. Over three days, they navigated through diverse and challenging terrain, including the Kamlang Nagar Tiger Reserve, Wakro, and reaching the revered Parshuram Kund. During their journey, they engaged with the local community in Hayuliang, promoting adventure tourism and emphasizing the importance of health and fitness. Cyclists pedaled alongside the pristine Lohit River and passed through the vibrant village of Walong before arriving at their final destination at Namti.

The flagging-in ceremony was marked by a deep sense of camaraderie and remembrance. The cycling expedition not only celebrates the spirit of adventure but also underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to promoting border area tourism and honoring the brave soldiers who have laid down their lives in defense of our nation.
