Eastern Railway , Sealdah Division has taken a giant leap towards ensuring the safety and efficiency of its operations. The division has become a pioneer in railway technology by implementing a cutting-edge remote shunting monitoring system under the dynamic leadership of Sri Akshat Malik, Sr.DOM/Sealdah and under the guidance of Sri Deepak Nigam DRM /Sealdah. This innovative initiative, christened “FOCUS” (Field Observation for Counselling and Upholding Safety), involves round-the-clock surveillance of shunt men and their activities at ten crucial stations.
State-of-the-art cameras, equipped with infrared night vision and talkback capabilities, have been strategically installed to provide real-time footage to the divisional control room. This advanced surveillance system empowers the control room to monitor shunting operations meticulously, identify potential risks proactively, and intervene swiftly in case of emergencies.
The remote monitoring system not only enhances safety but also boosts the morale of shunt men it is also safety net for Shunt Men, by providing constant surveillance, the system instils a sense of security and accountability, encouraging adherence to safety protocols. Additionally, the real-time communication channel between the control room and on-site staff ensures swift response to any unforeseen situations.
The implementation of this advanced technology has been remarkably cost-effective solution, with an investment of just Rs. 20,000. This underscores the division’s commitment to leveraging technology to optimize resources and enhance safety without compromising on quality.
