Nuranang Day 2024: Honouring the Courage and Sacrifice of War Heroes

The Indian Army’s GAJRAJ Corps marked Nuranang Day 2024 at Jaswant Garh, Arunachal Pradesh, paying homage to the heroic sacrifices made by 4 GARHWAL RIFLES during the Battle of Nuranang on 17 November 1962. This solemn occasion honoured the valour of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, Maha Vir Chakra, and his comrades, who displayed extraordinary bravery during the Sino-Indian War.

Event Highlights

The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, attended by the family of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, civil officials, ex-servicemen, students, tourists and over 300 participants, including Mr. Hakraso Kri, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Jang. Together, they honoured the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the Nation’s sovereignty.

Key highlights of the celebrations included:
1. Inauguration of Smriti Sthal: A newly established memorial featuring artefacts and displays commemorating the valour of National heroes.
2. Battle Reenactment: A gripping portrayal of the Battle of Nuranang brought history to life, showcasing the indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers.
3. Cultural Performances: Traditional performances by students of Government Higher and Primary Schools. Jang and vibrant Bhangra and Gatka displays by the Warriors of Sela Brigade, symbolising unity in diversity.

Pre-Event Activities

Leading up to Nuranang Day, the Warriors of Sela Brigade organised a series of community-oriented events:
• Ex-Servicemen and Gaon Burha Meeting (9 November): A platform for addressing concerns and celebrating the contributions of veterans.
• Painting and Lecture Competitions (11 November): Held at local schools, highlighting the creativity and patriotism of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth.
• Free Medical Camp (14 November): A health camp benefitted over 76 civilians, offering eye, dental, and general health check-ups.
• Ride for Remembrance (16 November): A 400 km journey by 13 riders from the Arunachal Bullet Club, who undertook Battle Tour of Kameng Region under GAJRAJ Corps to pay homage at war memorials and promoted the spirit of patriotism. Bikers visited Nyukmadung and Jaswantgarh War Memorials, Mago, Chumi Gytase ( HolyvWar Falls)

A Commitment to Legacy

The Nuranang Day celebrations reflected a shared resolve among the people of Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian Army, and the state administration to honour the legacy of India’s war heroes. The event culminated with the felicitation of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat’s family and ex-servicemen, underscoring the nation’s gratitude for their sacrifices.

Nuranang Day 2024 stands as a powerful reminder of the courage and unity that define India’s Armed Forces and inspire citizens to uphold the values of sacrifice and service to the Nation.
