St. Joan’s School, Newtown, Celebrates Annual Sports Day with Distinguished Guests
Newtown, December 2024: St. Joan’s School, Newtown, marked a momentous occasion with the celebration of its Annual Sports Day, a vibrant event showcasing the determination, spirit, and talent of its students. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, parents, guardians, and well-wishers, making it a day to remember.
The celebration was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Qin Yong, Deputy Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by consular representatives from the People’s Republic of China.
The Guests of Honour for the event included:
- Padmashri Prof. Dr. Indira Chakraborty, Public Health Specialist,
- Mrs. Krishna Chakraborty, Mayor of Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation, and
- Mr. Tapas Chatterjee, MLA Newtown and Chairman of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Standing Committee.
Adding further prestige to the event were Special Guests:
- Ms. Rahima Bibi Mondal and Mrs. Tulsi Sinha Roy, Members of the Mayor-in-Council (Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation),
- Former Indian football players Mr. Bikash Panji and Mr. Sumit Mukherjee,
- Rev. Sr. Pascal and Rev. Sr. Georgina from Lavinia House, and
- Mr. Neville McNamara, former Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Bow bazar.

Highlights of the event included performances by 56 students, featuring yoga, drills, dance, and other captivating displays of skill and creativity. These performances underscored the dedication of both students and teachers, reflecting the school’s ethos of discipline, hard work, and teamwork.
Principal Mrs. Debjani Ghosh expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, parents, and wellwishers for their unwavering support. “Your encouragement and applause are invaluable to our students and teachers. As we celebrate the energy and enthusiasm of our students, we also reaffirm our commitment to innovation and excellence, evident in our pioneering robotics curriculum, Mandarin language program, and stellar Board results,” she said.
The event concluded with a resounding applause for the teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and volunteers whose efforts brought this spectacular event to life.
