PRIORITY FOR PUNCTUAL COMMUTER-SENSITIVE TRAINS

Ensuring the punctual operation of commuter-sensitive trains remains a critical focus, as these trains are indispensable to thousands of passengers, including office-goers, students, artisans, small business owners, and agricultural producers. Operating primarily during peak morning and evening hours, these trains sustain livelihoods and drive productivity across the region.
Key Commuter Routes:
Sealdah Division: Sealdah-Lalgola, Hasnabad, Gede, Bangaon, Ranaghat, Dankuni, Kalyani Simanta, Lakshmikantapur, Diamond Harbour, Canning, and Budge Budge sections.
Howrah Division: Howrah-Barddhaman, Katwa, Tarakeswar, and Goghat sections.
Asansol Division: Asansol-Jasidih-Baidyanath Dham, Khana-Asansol sections.
Malda Division: Sahibganj-Bhagalpur-Jamalpur and Malda-Azimganj sections.
A total of 200 commuter-sensitive trains have been identified:
111 trains in the Sealdah Division,
66 trains in the Howrah Division,
12 trains in the Malda Division, and
11 trains in the Asansol Division.
As of December 15, 2024, these services achieved an 86.90% punctuality rate, despite occasional delays of 1 to 15 minutes or more caused by factors such as road traffic congestion at level crossings or temporary unavailability of clear paths.
To enhance punctuality and reduce delays, Eastern Railway has implemented the following initiatives:
Enhanced Monitoring: Real-time tracking of train movements to promptly address delays.
Improved Coordination: Streamlining operations at level crossings and other critical points.
Focus on Maintenance: Ensuring infrastructure and rolling stock are maintained to minimize disruptions.
Operational Adjustments: Prioritizing paths for commuter-sensitive trains during peak hours.
