ICC Hosts Danish Ambassador to Strengthen Ties in Green Energy, Trade, and Technology

Kolkata, 13th August: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) recently hosted an interactive session with H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India, focusing on expanding Indo-Danish cooperation in renewable energy, sustainable development, trade, and technology.

Ambassador Kristensen underlined Denmark’s global leadership in offshore wind energy, digital governance, energy efficiency, and advanced waste recycling. “More than 50% of our power already comes from wind energy, and we have set ambitious sustainability targets for 2030,” he said, adding that Denmark’s expertise in green technology—particularly offshore wind—can significantly support India in meeting its renewable energy goals.

The session highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to tackle climate change while driving economic growth. A potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union was identified as a vital step in boosting competitiveness and deepening economic engagement.

Kristensen pointed out that over 200 Danish companies are already operational in India, contributing to diverse sectors including electric vehicles, water conservation technologies, and advanced medical devices. “Our collaboration is not just about ideas; it’s tangible. Bridges in Denmark are being engineered from India, a strong symbol of our industrial partnership,” he remarked.

Denmark, he noted, is eager to explore India’s vast domestic market, which offers substantial opportunities for trade and investment. Conversely, Copenhagen could serve as a strategic gateway for Indian investors to directly access the Northern European market, further expanding bilateral trade prospects.

The discussions concluded with a strong emphasis on building sector-specific partnerships, leveraging Denmark’s innovation-driven economy and India’s expansive growth potential to forge a sustainable, mutually beneficial relationship.
