Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Special Session with Mr. Tomaz Mencin, Ambassador of Slovenia in India on “Bridging Europe and Asia: India–Slovenia Economic Cooperation,” here today (18.11.2025) at the Chamber. Mr. Sheo Shankar Bagaria, Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Kolkata and Past President of MCCI also addressed the Session.
Mr. Arun Kumar Garodia, Chairman, Council on Foreign Trade, MCCI mentioned that there is immense scope in sectors such as green technology, logistics and transport, pharmaceuticals, information technology, manufacturing, tourism, and education exchange. He viewed that by encouraging joint ventures, business delegations and knowledge sharing, India and Slovenia can turn possibilities into partnerships.
While highlighting India’s economic landscape, Mr. Garodia mentioned that the ambitious ‘India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor’ through land and sea routes, as announced during G-20 Summit, would be a game-changer in connecting continents and redefining the bilateral trade and investments prospects of India with the world.
H. E. Mr. Tomaz Mencin, Ambassador of Slovenia in India in his address mentioned that Slovenia and India are strengthening their economic ties, having already decided to collaborate on the production of medical instruments. Furthermore, the two countries are set to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to enhance bilateral trade and investment. Indian Embassy is active and developing niches of cooperation.
Slovenia is a country with a population of approximately 2 million people and per capita income of 35,000 euros. Slovenia has low-income inequality. Being a member of European Union, Slovenia’s economy is strong. Germany is Slovenia’s main trade partner. Their trade heavily focused on the automobile sector.
The envoy highlighted key sectors including Green Technology, Logistics & Transport, Pharmaceuticals, and Information Technology, offering immense potential for investors and businesses in Slovenia.
The session ended with a hearty Vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Mahesh Chandra Keyal, Committee Member, MCCI.
