WBGSICON – 2025
The essence of geriatric care resides in a holistic and collaborative approach, particularly within the geriatrics and its synergy with other specialist departments, while placing a significant focus on social geriatric care. This concept was emphasized during the Fifth State Conference on Geriatrics and Gerontology, organized by the West Bengal Chapter of the Geriatric Society of India on November 16, 2025, at the luxurious Altair Boutique Hotel, Sector Five, Salt Lake.
The formal inauguration ceremony featured distinguished medical professionals, including the revered senior physician, Professor Dr. Sukumar Mukherjee. A highlight of the event was the special recognition of Professor Dr. Moni Chhetri, a legendary senior physician who, at 106 years old, shared his heartfelt greetings and blessings through a video message. Additionally, the Geriatric Social Panel Discussion showcased prominent figures including former Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Professor Dr. Pabitra Sarkar, renowned film director Smt. Sudeshna Roy, and esteemed academic consultant Smt. Ina Bose.
Key Features of the Conference:
● This marks the 5th State Conference on Geriatrics and Gerontology by the West Bengal Chapter of the Geriatric Society of India.
● The West Bengal Chapter is recognized as the most active chapter within the Geriatric Society.
● Multiple Scientific and Social Geriatric Sessions and Workshops were conducted simultaneously across three halls.
● There was a strong emphasis on Social Geriatrics.
● More than 120 esteemed speakers, panelists, and chairpersons participated.
● The conference featured 35 scientific sessions, 2 geronto-social sessions, and 3 workshops covering Cognitive and Fall and Fracture Assessment, Sensor-Based Balance Therapy, and a Quiz on Geriatric Medicine.
● Post Graduate Trainees presented 6 case studies in Geriatric Medicine.
● Special workshops were conducted for Nurses, Paramedics, and Nutritionists.
● Comprehensive discussions addressed various aspects of Geriatric Medicine, including but not limited to Medicine, Psychiatry, Neuro, Cardiology, Urology, Respiratory Health, Cancer, Pharmacology, Diabetes, Movement Disorders, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Public Health, Vaccines, Anti-Aging, Gastroenterology, Palliative Care, App Geriatrics, Artificial Intelligence in Geriatrics, Post Hospital Syndrome, Polypharmacy, Geriatric Women’s Health, Geriatric Psychology, and Geriatric Insurance.
● This conference aims not only to enhance the knowledge of healthcare professionals in geriatric medicine but also to explore holistic ways to enrich the lives of our elders. Therefore, it welcomes participation from all those involved in elder care, including geriatricians and allied healthcare providers, making this event truly exceptional among medical conferences.
● Approximately 500 delegates participated.
● Numerous leading hospitals and medical institutions were represented, including the Geriatric Department of Kolkata Medical College, various medical colleges throughout West Bengal, BNR Hospital Kolkata, Woodlands Hospital, and NGOs such as “Banchbo Healing Touch Foundation,” “Dyuti Eldercare,” “Barrackpore Eldercare,” “Age Well Foundation,” along with various other geriatric organizations.
