Metro Railway has already started to provide suburban passengers with fast, comfortable, and smooth services from Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station which is cutting short their mundane travel time from their homes to work places and back. This was unthinkable a few years back. With the introduction of a suburban service for Bangaon from Dum Dum Cantonment station and the extension of the Hasnabad-Barasat local up to Dum Dum Cantonment station, more suburban passengers can now avail Yellow Line Metro services from Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station.
After the inauguration of the Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar stretch of the Yellow Line by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in last August, commuting to and from the airport has already become a cakewalk for thousands of air travellers. Apart from that, Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station is also gaining importance and becoming one of the important stations of the Yellow Line, providing suburban passengers the unique opportunity to travel with comfort and ease, especially during morning and evening peak hours. This station has become another gateway to Kolkata for suburban passengers travelling to different parts of the city. Their long, arduous journey is steadily becoming a matter of the past as this station of the Yellow Line is providing seamless connectivity between Metro Railway and Eastern Railway, and passengers can now easily avail suburban services originating from Dum Dum Cantonment station or touching this station of Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway after getting down at Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station. This connectivity is providing a unique opportunity to passengers to change and avail Bangaon and Barasat Locals originating from Dum Dum Cantonment station of Eastern Railway during peak hours and vice-versa. They won’t have to go to Sealdah station to catch the crowded Bangaon local.
Apart from this, from 04.12.2025, one Hasnabad-Barasat EMU local is going to be extended up to Dum Dum Cantonment station. This train will reach Dum Dum Cantonment station at 19.51 hrs. Suburban passengers travelling in this train from places like Hasnabad, Basirhat, and Barasat can easily avail Metro services to reach Behala or Joka during evening peak hours without bothering about traffic snarls. It is expected that this connectivity is going to become more popular and passenger-friendly. With this new introduction and extension of suburban services of Eastern Railway and Metro connectivity at Dum Dum Cantonment station, commuters will be immensely benefitted during peak hours.
For the benefit of the commuters, Metro authorities are also gearing up to manage the expected rush in the coming days and are taking all possible steps to make life and the journey enjoyable for thousands of people.
