Opening of Visitor Parking Facility at Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah
Howrah, 19 December 2025:
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, under the aegis of the Botanical Survey of India, is pleased to announce the official opening of a new on-site parking facility for visitors at the College Gate.
The facility was inaugurated on 19 December 2025 by Dr. Kanad Das, Director, BSI, in the presence of Dr. Devendra Singh, Scientist ‘E’ & Head of Office, along with staff members of the Garden.
Designed to improve visitor convenience while preserving the Garden’s serene environment, the parking area has an approximate capacity for 20 cars, 50 two-wheelers, and 8–10 buses. Clearly marked accessible parking points have been provided, and the facility is located close to the main entrance. As part of visitor management and conservation measures, vehicles are not permitted inside the Garden premises.
The parking facility will operate daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, aligning with the Garden’s visiting hours. Parking fees have been kept nominal to encourage wider public access:
₹30 for two-wheelers
₹60 for four-wheelers
₹100 for buses
Visitors are requested to follow the displayed signage and parking guidelines upon arrival.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience, particularly for educational institutions such as schools and colleges, by offering convenient access to the Garden’s diverse plant collections and scientifically curated sections dedicated to different groups of plants. The new facility reflects the Garden’s continued commitment to providing a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment, while strengthening its mission to connect people with plants, science, and nature.
