Army CSD Liquor Smuggling Racket Busted in Assam; 150 Cases Seized Near Misamari
Tezpur (Assam), April 18, 2026:
In a significant crackdown on illegal diversion of defence supplies, a joint operation by law enforcement and military agencies led to the seizure of a large consignment of liquor intended for Army personnel in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
According to official sources, the operation was carried out on April 17 in the general area near Misamari railway station. Around 150 cases of liquor, originally meant for sale through Canteen Stores Department (CSD) outlets catering exclusively to armed forces personnel, were intercepted during an attempted smuggling operation.
The coordinated operation involved the Assam Police, the Tezpur-based Gajraj Intelligence Unit, and local Army authorities. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team successfully intercepted the consignment while it was being moved out of the Canteen Stores Depot premises in Misamari.
Officials stated that the seizure exposes a well-organised network attempting to divert restricted military supplies into unauthorised civilian channels. The incident underscores the continued vigilance of enforcement agencies and highlights strong inter-agency coordination in safeguarding the integrity of defence supply chains.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Misamari Police Station, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the racket.
