Early Life and Academic Journey
Born on March 7, 1983, in the remote village of Natapukur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, Faruque Ahamed’s journey from a modest rural background to becoming a respected literary and social figure is an inspiring story of perseverance and dedication.
A bright and inquisitive student from an early age, he completed his secondary education at Ghatakpukur High School and secured a first division in Higher Secondary Science from Bhangar High School. He later graduated from Surendranath Day College under the University of Calcutta.
His pursuit of knowledge continued with a Bachelor of Library Science degree from M.S. University, followed by a Master’s degree in History from Kalyani University. He also earned a Master’s degree in English Literature from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), reflecting his deep commitment to academics and literature.
Building a Literary Platform: Udar Akash
Faruque Ahamed is best known as the founder and editor of Udar Akash (Generous Sky), a peer-reviewed bilingual research journal that has been promoting academic and literary discussions for more than two decades.
The magazine was launched in 2002 while he was still a college student. Using savings from his pocket money and with support from friends, he published the first issue, laying the foundation for what would become a respected intellectual platform.
His journey in journalism began even earlier during his school days, when he supplemented his family’s farming income by selling newspapers. These humble beginnings shaped his understanding of grassroots realities and social inequalities.
Alongside the journal, he established Udar Akash Publishing House, which has published more than 160 books covering literature, social sciences, history, politics and culture. Several of these publications have received critical acclaim and are widely used by researchers, academics and readers across West Bengal and Bangladesh.
