METRO RAILWAY COMMISSIONED 500 KWP SOLAR POWER PLANT AT JESSORE ROAD METRO STATION

Today, i.e. on 01.07.2026 Metro Railway commissioned a solar plant of capacity 500 KWP at the roof of the Jessore Road Metro Station of Yellow Line. Shri Prem Sagar Gupta, General Manager, Metro Railway inaugurated this solar plant in presence of senior officers of Metro Railway. The salient feature of this plant is that it can generate an average of 1800-unit per day. This will result in Annual energy saving of Rs.50,00,000/- from this plant. By this , this plant is expected to recover its installation cost in about 3 years. This plant expected to function and produce electricity for next 25 year with minimal maintenance. This solar plant performance will be monitored through cloud-based monitoring system. Jessore Road station will generate surplus energy for its auxiliary power consumption such as Lighting, Lifts and escalator etc through this solar plant.
Metro Railway has already awarded contracts of 6.5 MWp for various locations such as vacant land of Noapara, Near Jessore Road and other service buildings.
Further, a contract for 13MWp solar plant shall be finalised shortly for Noapara Carshed and various stations and sheds of Orange and Purple Lines.
Around 10MWp capacity solar plants are in pipeline and will commence in around 2027.
After completion of these projects, total installed Solar Power Generating Capacity of Metro Railway, Kolkata will reach to 34.3MWp, which will generate around 1.2 Lakh units equivalent to Rs. 10 Lakh per day. This is expected to reduce 36MT of Carbon emission on account of this non-conventional Green energy generation.
