In a swift operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully coordinated the rescue of 10 fishermen stranded at sea off Puri, Odisha, in adverse weather conditions.
On receipt of information from Odisha Police Coastal Security Headquarters, it was learnt that the fishing boat IND-AP-V5-MM-872, carrying 10 crew members, was stranded off Puri due to rough sea conditions. The nearby fishing boat IFB Simhadri Apna (Registration No. IND-AP-V5-MM-378) was directed to rescue all the stranded fishermen.
With a total of 20 persons onboard, the fishing boat IFB Simhadri Apna requested assistance due to adverse sea conditions with unforgiving winds gusting upto 40 knots and swell height 2.5-3.0 m. Upon receipt of the information, Coast Guard Interceptor Boat established contact with the fishing boat and escorted it safely towards Paradip harbour.
The Coast Guard District Headquarters (Odisha) coordinated with the Pardip Port authority to facilitate berthing and necessary support for the distressed fishing boat at the harbour. The timely rescue highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to safeguarding life at Sea and its close coordination with the Odisha Police, Port authorities, and the fishing community in ensuring maritime safety.
