U.S. Introduces New Policy to Restrict High-Risk Life Sciences Research

Washington D.C., July 28: The United States has unveiled a new federal policy aimed at tightening oversight of high-risk life sciences research, reaffirming its commitment to scientific innovation while placing greater emphasis on biosafety, national security, and public health protection.
Jointly announced by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the policy establishes stricter rules governing federally funded research that could pose significant biological risks. The move is intended to ensure that scientific advancements continue without compromising public safety or creating new security threats.
According to the U.S. government, biomedical research has played a critical role in developing life-saving vaccines, therapies, and medical technologies.
