Republic of Balochistan Announces Global Observance of August 11 as Independence Day

August 3, 2026: The organization identifying itself as the Republic of Balochistan has announced plans to observe August 11 as the Independence Day of Balochistan, calling on Baloch communities around the world to commemorate the occasion with ceremonies and displays of what it describes as the national flag of an independent Balochistan.

According to a statement issued by the organization, Baloch people are being encouraged to organize events at homes, educational institutions, marketplaces, and public spaces to mark the day and to educate younger generations about what it considers the historical significance of August 11, 1947.

The statement outlines the organization’s political position that the partition of the Indian subcontinent and the subsequent creation of Pakistan led to prolonged regional instability, conflict, and economic challenges. It further argues that these developments have affected peace and security across South Asia and, in some instances, beyond the region.

The organization also presents its interpretation of several historical events, including the accession of the former princely State of Kalat to Pakistan in 1948, the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Pakistan’s role during the Soviet-Afghan conflict, the 1998 nuclear tests conducted in the Chagai region of Balochistan, and Pakistan’s involvement in counterterrorism efforts following the September 11 attacks. These assertions reflect the organization’s stated perspective and remain matters of historical and political debate.

In its statement, the Republic of Balochistan reiterates its demand for international recognition of Balochistan as an independent and sovereign state. It maintains that Balochistan declared its independence on August 11, 1947, prior to its incorporation into Pakistan, and says this date has long been observed by supporters as Balochistan’s Independence Day.

The organization further claims that its position is supported by historical references, including contemporary international media reports and radio broadcasts from the period, although interpretations of these events differ among historians, governments, and political stakeholders.

The question of Balochistan’s political status remains internationally sensitive. Pakistan regards Balochistan as an integral part of its sovereign territory, while various Baloch nationalist groups continue to advocate for greater autonomy or independence. The international community generally recognizes Balochistan as part of Pakistan under existing international borders.

The latest announcement is expected to draw attention to the continuing political debate surrounding Balochistan and the differing narratives regarding the region’s history, identity, and future.
