Padma Shri Satyanarayan Nuwal at IIM Nagpur: “Management Means Turning Challenges into Opportunities”
Entrepreneur and Solar Group Chairman urges students to combine professional skills with strong character
Nagpur, August 19, 2026:
Padma Shri awardee and Solar Group of Industries Chairman Satyanarayanji Nuwal urged management students to view adversity as an opportunity for learning, innovation and growth during a special interaction at the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur.
The institute organised a felicitation programme to honour Nuwal following his recognition with the Padma Shri for his contribution to trade and industry. Speaking to students, he drew upon his entrepreneurial experience to explain how difficult circumstances can be transformed into opportunities through effective management and perseverance.
Character remains central to success
Nuwal told the students that professional competence by itself cannot guarantee meaningful success. He emphasised the importance of developing personal character and values alongside technical and managerial abilities.
He encouraged students to approach challenges positively, describing difficult situations as opportunities that can contribute to both personal and professional development.
Material science and AI among key areas for the future
The Solar Group chairman also highlighted the growing importance of material science, encouraging future managers to understand the subject as technological advancement creates new opportunities across industries.
He further spoke about the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, observing that AI is increasingly influencing different sectors. At the same time, he cautioned that technological progress should remain connected with India’s cultural heritage and social roots.
Focus on indigenous defence capabilities
Nuwal discussed India’s progress towards greater self-reliance in defence production and outlined some of Solar Group’s indigenous technology initiatives.
During his interaction, he said the company’s counter-drone system, including the Micromax missile, was expected to be ready by October. He also referred to work on a universal air bomb intended for compatibility with aircraft manufactured by both NATO and Eastern countries.
IIM Nagpur celebrates entrepreneurial journey
Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, felicitated Nuwal during the programme. He highlighted Nuwal’s progression from humble beginnings to the creation of a leading Indian enterprise, noting that his entrepreneurial journey offers important lessons for management students.
The event was attended by faculty members, officers, staff and students of IIM Nagpur. Beyond celebrating the Padma Shri recognition, the programme provided an opportunity for the institute community to examine themes of entrepreneurship, leadership, resilience and nation-building through Nuwal’s experiences.
