CLINICAL MEETING ON NEW HORIZON IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TRANSFUSION-DEPENDENT ADULT BETA-THALASSEMIA

In a significant stride towards advancing medical knowledge, a Clinical Meeting on “New Horizon in the Management of Transfusion-Dependent Adult Beta Thalassemia” was held under the auspices of IRHSA/Doctor’s Club at B R Singh Hospital Auditorium on 21.12.23.
The scientific program was graced by esteemed personalities including Dr. Indira Jha, Medical Director/B. R. Singh Hospital, Dr. Achintya Sanyal, Chief Medical Superintendent/Sealdah, Dr. Subhankar Home/Chief Specialist-2/B. R. Singh Hospital, along with other administrative officers, doctors, senior residents, and DNB PGTs.
During the enlightening lecture program, Prof. Dr. T K Dolai, HOD Hematology, NRS Medical College & Hospital, and HVS/Hemato Oncology/B. R. Singh Hospital shared invaluable insights into the latest advances in the field. He particularly shed light on data supporting these new advances and provided a comprehensive overview of the use of Luspatercept in clinical practice. Dr. Dolai presented a roadmap detailing its indications and adverse effects, emphasizing its potential to enhance the quality of life for patients by reducing the need for blood transfusion and chelation therapy in adult thalassemias. Additionally, he informed the audience about an ongoing clinical trial in the pediatric age group. The session was conducted by Dr. Debasish Bandyopadhyay/ACHD/Pediatrics & Hematology.
The lecture concluded with an interactive session where the audience’s doubts and opinions were discussed and clarified.
