INDIAN COAST GUARD RESPONSE TO DEVELOPING CYCLONIC STORM IN BAY OF BENGAL
Indian Coast Guard response to developing cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal
The developing cyclonic storm in the central bay of Bengal is likely to have landfall in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central bay of Bengal coast on the night of 26/ 27 May 24. Coast Guard region has instituted all pre-emptive initiatives (northeast) to ensure nil loss of life and property at sea.
Concerned state administration and stakeholders have been alerted. All information on developing situations is shared with stakeholders for synergized response to meet all contingencies. Regular and frequent VHF alerts are being broadcasted through ICG remote operating stations from Haldia and Paradip in English and vernacular languages for transiting merchant mariners. ICG ship and aircraft carrying out surveillance in the possible cyclonic path and all vessels at anchorage and their respective port authorities have been alerted for needful actions at their end. The fisheries department has been cautioned through a fishing ban in force to alert country boats in their respective areas.
Bangladesh Coast Guard authorities have been informed to institute needful preparation for a collective response to the developing situation and to alert Bangladesh fishermen and merchantmen.
ICG ships and aircraft are kept at immediate notice to undertake search and rescue missions. Nine disaster relief teams were kept on standby at Haldia, Paradip, Gopālpur, and Frazerganj for immediate assistance. The Indian Coast Guard is sparing no efforts to ensure the safety of life and property at sea.
