ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTED A TREE PLANTATION DRIVE IN MELURI DISTRICT
Assam Rifles conducted a tree plantation drive at Avangkhu, Ziphu, New Thewati, and Akhen in Meluri district as part of its continued commitment towards environmental conservation and community participation. The initiative was organised to promote ecological awareness, expand green cover, and encourage shared responsibility towards sustainable development in rural areas.
A total of 125 saplings were planted during the drive across identified community locations. The programme witnessed active participation of 150 individuals, comprising 38 males, 40 females, and 72 children from the local population. The involvement of a large number of children added educational value to the initiative and reflected growing environmental consciousness among the younger generation.
The plantation activity was carried out in coordination with village representatives to ensure proper identification of sites suitable for long term growth and maintenance of the saplings. Participants were briefed on the importance of tree cover in preventing soil erosion, improving air quality, and maintaining ecological balance in hilly terrain areas. Emphasis was laid on collective ownership and regular care to ensure the survival and healthy development of the planted saplings.
The drive provided a constructive platform for interaction between Assam Rifles personnel and local residents through a shared environmental objective. Community members expressed willingness to nurture the saplings and contribute towards the preservation of the surrounding natural environment. The initiative underscores the Assam Rifles’ sustained efforts towards community development, environmental stewardship, and meaningful engagement with the population of Meluri district through structured civic action activities.
