Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath Inaugurate ‘Nausena Shaurya Vatika’ in Lucknow, Honour Indian Navy’s Legacy

Lucknow, May 30: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday jointly inaugurated ‘Nausena Shaurya Vatika’, a state-of-the-art open-air naval museum in Lucknow dedicated to the courage, sacrifice, and operational excellence of the Indian Navy. Built at a cost of approximately ₹19 crore over an area of more than two acres, the facility showcases weapon systems and artefacts from the decommissioned warship INS Gomati, which served the nation for 34 years before retiring in May 2022.
Addressing the gathering, Rajnath Singh described the museum as more than a tourist destination, calling it a living tribute to India’s armed forces and a source of inspiration for future generations. He said the initiative would remind citizens of the sacrifices made by military personnel in safeguarding the nation’s freedom and security.
“This is not merely an architectural structure. It is a symbol of gratitude towards our soldiers and an effort to inspire young Indians to contribute to nation-building,” the Defence Minister said.
Indian Navy’s Strength Ensured Strategic Advantage During Operation Sindoor
Highlighting the importance of maritime security in an increasingly volatile geopolitical environment, Rajnath Singh emphasized that secure sea routes remain essential for global peace, trade, and prosperity. He praised the Indian Navy’s operational preparedness and its contribution during Operation Sindoor, alongside the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
According to the Defence Minister, the Indian Navy’s strong deployment in the Arabian Sea played a crucial role in deterring hostile actions.
“Our Navy’s formidable posture created a constant sense of caution for the adversary, resulting in the Pakistan Navy remaining confined to its ports,” Singh stated.
Push for Self-Reliant Defence Manufacturing
The Defence Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to building a secure and prosperous India through a strong military and a self-reliant defence industrial ecosystem. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat for accelerating indigenous defence production and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
Citing initiatives such as Make in India, Defence Industrial Corridors, Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), and ADITI, Singh said India is now manufacturing advanced defence systems domestically and exporting military equipment to friendly nations.
He noted that domestic defence production has increased from approximately ₹46,000 crore in 2014 to over ₹1.51 lakh crore today and is expected to cross ₹1.75 lakh crore in the near future. Defence exports, he added, have surged from less than ₹1,000 crore in 2014 to nearly ₹40,000 crore annually.
Uttar Pradesh Emerging as a Defence Manufacturing Hub
Rajnath Singh highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing contribution to India’s defence ecosystem, particularly through the Defence Industrial Corridor. He noted that while soldiers from the state continue to serve on the frontlines, the industrial corridor is creating new opportunities in defence manufacturing and technological innovation.
He also praised Uttar Pradesh’s progress in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, science and technology, transport infrastructure, and aviation.
Yogi Adityanath Pays Tribute to Armed Forces
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to India’s armed forces, stating that national development is only possible in a secure environment protected by dedicated soldiers.
He emphasized that respect for military personnel and their welfare remains an integral component of Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
What Visitors Will See at Nausena Shaurya Vatika
The newly inaugurated museum features a range of naval weapon systems and equipment from INS Gomati, including the AK-726 naval gun, missile launchers, radar systems, torpedo launchers, anchors, ship masts, and other maritime artefacts.
A major attraction is the walkthrough museum dedicated to the TU-142M long-range maritime patrol aircraft, which once played a significant role in India’s maritime surveillance operations. Visitors can also enjoy modern amenities including a food court, souvenir shop, and advanced lighting and sound installations.
Legacy of INS Gomati
Commissioned on April 16, 1988, at Mazagon Dock Limited, INS Gomati was the third vessel of the Godavari-class guided missile frigates and became one of the most distinguished warships of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet.
During its service, the warship participated in several major operations, including Operation Cactus, Operation Parakram, and Operation Rainbow, besides taking part in numerous bilateral and multinational naval exercises. Recognized for its outstanding contribution to maritime security, INS Gomati received the prestigious Unit Citation twice, in 2007-08 and again in 2019-20.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, along with senior civil and military officials, marking a significant occasion in celebrating India’s naval heritage and military achievements.
