West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to Inaugurate Animal Taxonomy Summit 2026

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) is set to commemorate its 111th Foundation Day with the celebration of ZSI Day on June 30, 2026, marking over a century of pioneering contributions to India’s faunal research, biodiversity documentation, and wildlife conservation.
As part of the celebrations, ZSI will host the Animal Taxonomy Summit 2026, a three-day national scientific conference scheduled from June 30 to July 2, 2026, bringing together leading taxonomists, biodiversity experts, researchers, policymakers, and conservation professionals from across the country.
The summit will be formally inaugurated on June 30, 2026, at the Dhano Dhanyo Auditorium, Kolkata, by Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, along with Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav.
The event is expected to serve as a significant platform for advancing discussions on animal taxonomy, biodiversity conservation, species discovery, ecosystem management, and emerging scientific approaches to documenting India’s rich faunal diversity.
With biodiversity conservation assuming increasing global importance amid climate change and habitat loss, the Animal Taxonomy Summit 2026 aims to strengthen collaboration among scientific institutions, government agencies, and conservation organizations while promoting innovation in taxonomic research and capacity building.
The 111th Foundation Day celebrations also highlight the enduring legacy of the Zoological Survey of India, one of the country’s premier scientific institutions dedicated to the exploration, identification, and documentation of India’s animal diversity for more than a century.
The summit is expected to witness participation from eminent scientists, academicians, research scholars, and representatives from various national institutions, reaffirming India’s commitment to biodiversity research and sustainable environmental conservation.
