Thousands Celebrate Music, Theatre, Cuisine, Literature and Heritage at the UK’s Largest Indian-Bengali Cultural Carnival
Kolkata, July 1, 2026: The third edition of London Mahotsav 2026, widely recognised as the United Kingdom’s largest Indian-Bengali cultural carnival, concluded on a high note after attracting thousands of visitors to the Sattavis Patidar Centre, Wembley, London. The two-day celebration showcased the vibrant essence of Bengali culture through music, theatre, literature, cuisine, entrepreneurship, fashion, sports and heritage, reaffirming its status as one of the most significant cultural festivals for the Indian diaspora in Europe.
Organised by Candid Communication UK, the festival, held on June 27 and 28, transformed Wembley into a colourful hub of cultural exchange, bringing together artists, authors, entrepreneurs, business leaders, sportspersons and community members from across the United Kingdom and beyond.
The festival was inaugurated by an eminent gathering of dignitaries including Cllr Amer Agha, Mayor of Brent; Cllr Yogesh Teli, Mayor of Harrow; Mrs Neela Teli, Mayoress of Harrow; Virendra Sharma, former Member of Parliament, UK; Sayantan Das Adhikari, Founder-Director of Candid Communication India & UK; and Nabamita Das Adhikari, Director of Candid Communication UK. Their presence highlighted the festival’s growing importance in strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties between India and the United Kingdom.
Musical Extravaganza Captivates Audiences
One of the festival’s biggest attractions was its star-studded musical line-up featuring celebrated performers Shrabani Sen, Rupankar Bagchi, Poushali Banerjee, Soumitra Roy of Bhoomi, Sidhu of Cactus, and Tathagata Sengupta, whose tribute to legendary composer R.D. Burman received an overwhelming response. The performances reflected the diversity and richness of Bengal’s musical heritage, leaving audiences enthralled.
Theatre Takes Centre Stage
The theatre segment emerged as another major highlight with the much-awaited production ‘Prothom Partha’, marking the first-ever UK stage performance together by acclaimed actors Kaushik Sen and Debshankar Haldar. They were joined by Arindam Sil, Anjana Basu and Raya Bhattacharya, drawing theatre enthusiasts from across Britain.
Football Legends Revisit Bengal’s Sporting Glory
Football lovers enjoyed a nostalgic session titled ‘Banglar Derby’, featuring legendary footballers Prasanta Banerjee, Manas Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Ganguly and Chima Okorie, moderated by veteran sports journalist Gautam Bhattacharya. The discussion revisited some of Bengal’s most memorable footballing moments and celebrated the state’s enduring passion for the sport.
Celebrating Mothers Through Matrimaa
Adding a unique dimension to the festival was the grand finale of Matrimaa, a beauty pageant dedicated exclusively to mothers. Curated by Tuhinaa Pandey, the competition featured participants travelling from India to compete on an international platform, making it one of the festival’s most talked-about attractions.
A Taste of Kolkata in London
The culinary section emerged as a major crowd-puller, with Aminia bringing the authentic flavours of Kolkata through its signature biryani and traditional delicacies as part of a specially curated Food Utsav. The gastronomic experience was further enhanced by Tangerine, with renowned chefs Sandeep, Rohit and Sujit travelling from Kolkata to present an exclusive menu.
Hindustan Sweets also delighted visitors with traditional Bengali sweets, while an engaging food discussion featuring food influencer Indrajit Lahiri (Foodka) alongside Kabir Azhar and Asher Ather of Aminia attracted enthusiastic participation from food lovers.
Showcasing Business and Entrepreneurship
The exhibition arena featured an impressive collection of brands and entrepreneurs from both India and the United Kingdom. Visitors interacted with well-known brands including Suta, B.N. Ghanty and Priyontor, alongside several emerging enterprises, highlighting the growing commercial and cultural partnership between Bengal and the UK.
